Basic Rhythm

Ages 3-5. This starts sudents off right!

These classes are designed to introduce the younger dancer, generally ages 3 to 5,  to the basic foundations of dance,  The classes help students develop a sense of self which is a wonderful foundation in many aspects of life.  We focus on providing a positive nurturing environment.  We have developed creative ways to help children learn about their body incorporating concepts of rhythm, weight transferring, basic terminology and expression.  This introduction allows young children to develop self esteem, discipline and structure which challenges them without frustration but builds a sense of personal and physical achievement.

Jazz

Jazz is a dramatic movement experience that encourages rhythmic movements, gestures and mimicry.  Popular music stimulates the movement, accompanies it and motivates it.  High energy, exhilaration and freedom of movement are all inherent to jazz.  Techniques taught include isolations of the body, polycentrics (coordinating two or more centers), movements of tension with spontaneous relaxation, locomotor actions and the use of level changes.  Progressions and combinations are tools used to teach these techniques.  Jazz style is intense and charged, and students are taught to feel and illustrate the movement.  Black jazz shoes are required.

Ballet/Pointe

For the older student, ballet technique requires much more concentration and discipline in order to execute the movement detail properly.  Barre work, port de bras, stretching and strengthening exercises are balanced.  Ballet builds a strong foundation of coordination, appreciation of art, and an expressive achievement which are wonderful assets for any endeavor.  A leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes are required.

Tap

The art of tap dance involves the full body. Good tap dancing is performed with control, speed, and smoothness. Movements of the arms, legs, and body are incorporated with tap steps. In our graded tap form, the exercises and combinations directly develop a sense of coordination, body control, and the rhythmic sense and detailed development of the feet.

Adult Classes

These classes are designed for the not so serious adult who has an appreciation of the art form, and a desire to dance and exercise.  Classes are designed in such a way that little or no experience is necessary.  The only requirement is a good attitude, and an open mind!  Classes begin at the start of season in the fall.  Performing in the annual production (recital) is entirely optional.  Adult classes are a wonderful way to have fun, exercise and meet interesting people.  We hope to see many of you this year!
